Join us for a webinar on The Lens, a free and open knowledge and discovery platform that provides analytics and research management tools, and a comprehensive collection of scholarly literature and patent metadata. Sign up for the webinar on Monday 7 June at 14:00 CET to learn all about it!

What is unique about The Lens?

When The Lens joined Research4Life in September 2020, we talked to Osmat Jefferson and Mark Garlinghouse: read the interview and learn how The Lens promotes inclusivity and access to knowledge.

  1. Open and inclusive access
The Lens offers tools to discover and analyze open content. Core datasets are also open, global and can be accessed, used and shared by anyone. Metrics such as citation counts from articles and patents are calculated and provided as open, transparent and reusable data.
  1. A wealth of content
The Lens offers over 200 million scholarly works, compiled and harmonised. It also hosts over 130 million patent records from over 95 different jurisdictions. It encourages users to create and annotate collections of their patent and scholarly works: public collections can be shared with colleagues, or publicly to a wider audience.
  1. Powerful mapping
The Lens provides a rich network of linked information on scholarly works and innovation — allowing users to connect content silos and create unique insights. It supports structured search, biological sequences, advanced boolean functions, and filtering and sorting options to find the most relevant and important patents.
  1. COVID-19 datasets
The Lens has assembled coronavirus-related free and open datasets of patent documents, scholarly research works, metadata and biological sequences from patents, and deposited them in a machine-readable and explorable form.

What will you learn?

Mark Garlinghouse, Director of Business Development at The Lens, will present an overview of the platform, explaining how it bridges scholarly research with invention and industry. It will be followed by a demonstration of how to perform searches of interest to librarians and researchers at academic institutions.
