Webinar – How Research4Life can help make Open Access publishing more equitable

Many Research4Life institutions are seeking to increase the amount of research published by their faculty members, to gain a higher profile for their work and recognition from their peers around the world. However, the benefits of Open Access publishing can sometimes be difficult to obtain due to obstacles faced by authors in lower and middle-income countries, such as lack of funds for publication fees or lack of understanding of the Open Access publishing process.
The Research4Life Help Desk is receiving a growing number of requests for help with Open Access publishing from users and librarians. In July 2020 a new Task Force was set up to explore how Research4Life could respond to these queries and what support could be provided to our institutional contacts to help them advise their colleagues and end-users on how best to navigate the landscape of Open Access.
What will you learn?
This Webinar, presented by 4 publisher members of the Open Access Task Force, will explain how the team has gone about its work, showcasing the newly released Research4Life Best Practice Guidelines on how to communicate APC waiver policies, and a page with links to publisher APC waiver policies to guide users. The Task Force will also launch a new survey designed to gather feedback on how Research4Life can support librarians in our user institutions with Open Access publishing challenges.
